We Are Busy Learning

We have had a fun couple of weeks learning about our presidents and community helpers. This past week each of the students made a card to be sent to our military in Afghanistan. I was so proud of each of their efforts they really put a lot of time and thought into their cards. The next few weeks our theme will be Dr. Seuss! I think the students will really have fun with this.

I am so pleased with their journal writing. They are really trying hard to sound out words and they are becoming writers. Encourage your child to sound out words and remember they do not have to be spelled correctly at this point. They should be writing what they hear. Here are a few examples of what a kindergarten student may write: police-pls, nurse-nrs, doctor-dotr or doctr. If they write something for you just ask them to read it to you and then get so excited and say I knew that is what it said I just wanted to hear you read it. Right now we want to build their confidence as readers and writers. The correct spelling will come soon.

Once again, thanks so much for sharing your children with me. I am blessed to be at such a great school with such awesome students and parents. I love teaching your children! :)
